Unlock Your Potential.

Chapter 7

September 23, 2001. Almost two weeks after the vicious attacks in New York and Pennsylvania, I was watching the New York Jets versus New England Patriots game. The world was hurting from terrorist attacks from 9/11, and things were different.

I was home watching football that weekend with my parents, and wasn’t traveling for a fight in Las Vegas that weekend, because most everything had been shut down for the past few weeks due to the national crisis. If I wasn’t training or fighting, I was resting on Sundays watching football with my family. It was a religion in our home.

It was the fourth quarter and the Patriots were down by a touchdown. Drew Bledsoe was pushing the Patriots down the field with a little over five minutes to go. He scrambled out to the right side and was blasted by Mo Lewis. Drew Bledsoe was the face of the New England organization. He was the Number One pick in the draft a few years back, an All Pro, and leader of the Patriots. Now, he lay on the field in pain hurting from a nasty hit he took from Lewis. Bledsoe eventually got up, and it was a turnover in downs. When the Patriots got the ball back from the Jets, Bledsoe stepped onto the field and returned for one more series. He didn’t look the same. Something was wrong, and the Pro Bowl quarterback went walking to the sidelines.

The stadium went quiet. The backup quarterback walked onto the field. An unrecognizable name in his second year in the league from Michigan replaced him. Some guy named Tom Brady walked to the middle of the huddle, down by a touchdown with a few minutes left in the game.

Brady sets back into the pocket and completes a pass to Patrick Pass on the right side for three yards. 2:26 Left. Brady passes across the middle complete to Troy Brown for a ten yard gain. 2:00 Minute Warning. Brady sets back, pass complete to Troy Brown again for a gain of nine yards on the left side. 1:36 left in the game. Brady sets back and completes a third pass to Troy Brown across the middle for another gain of three yards. 1:12 remaining. Brady sets back and finds an opening on the right side and scurries for a nine yard rushing gain. :40 seconds left in the game. Brady sets back and finds an opening across the middle and fires a shot complete to David Patten for a 21 yard completion. :33 seconds left. Clock is ticking. Brady sets back and fires an incomplete pass. Game over. New York Jets hold onto win a nail biter against the New England Patriots. Excitement was in the air because this no-name, backup quarterback fresh off the bench in his second year just ran a 2:00 minute drill with no warm-up in his first game. Who is this Tom Brady guy?

Today. January 7, 2021. Tom Brady takes the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl in his first year as their quarterback and wins his 7th Super Bowl. Astonishing. The Living Legend, The G.O.A.T, the all time greatest… a man we all know – Tom Brady. A household name.
