Chapter 21
P I V O T 🛋
Any body every seen that episode of Friends where they obliterate the couch because they happen to have an unexpected challenge? If not… you should. Within this, we all come across some serious difficulties in life (some more serious than others), and there can be serious disappointments or hardships.
I was trying to install custom lighting on our patio and backyard, and had almost completed the project when one of the straps that I bought from Home Depot broke and sent all of my lights crashing down and shattering. I was a few hours into the project…
Not only was I pretty disappointed that my hard work and time was now wasted, but the glass shattered everywhere on my patio and elsewhere – and the only positive thing about this is I had the cover on the spa (no glass got into it).
So I spent the next few hours having to remove broken bulbs from sockets that were stuck inside the pockets, scavenging for shards of glass so no one entering my spa or playing around would get glass in their feet, and so on…
To say the least, I wanted to scream a few choice words… lol. We had plans to go somewhere with the kids tonight, but because I had to remedy the area because of safety reasons, we couldn’t do what I had originally planned for this evening. I told my wife I hadn’t been that upset in a long time and instead of directing all my frustrations in anger – I started to say, “P I V O T!!!” What happened next was miraculous and hilarious, because Benny and Kathi started to roll over in laughter because I was quoting the Friends episode and being silly when I could have easily been furious at the situation.
I am still working on my project as you can see, I had to buy a different type of ladder at Home Depot because the other ladder couldn’t reach a strap I needed to remove from when everything fell. I am just thankful that I get to go home and try to do something special for my family. I am so blessed.
Moral of the Story: Even when things fall from the sky and life rains down shards of glass and your life is broken into pieces, find refuge in those around you that are still willing to help and be around you. Life is not fair, but those that are willing to be with you during this time is the true joy. Time is so precious, whether sweeping up glass and picking pieces of crap up or whether it is something else, enjoy it with those you love. Sometimes life requires you to change things or move things around that weren’t a part of the plan- a Pivot, so to speak. When things aren’t going your way, count your blessings and PIVOT.
By the way, Home Depot was amazing at giving me a discount on the ladder after hearing what happened! Thank you #HomeDepot 😊
