Chapter 1
Friday March 13, 2020. A day that will in infamy. Yes, Friday The 13th. Who would have know that the poop would have hit the fan on a freaky Friday? For me, I sat in a room with a whole bunch of high schoolers at King High School trying to reassure them that everything would be okay. Through social media, the school district had just gone into an emergency meeting on whether to shut schools down due to the new emerging “Corona Virus”.
My phone was blowing up. I had other coaches and media connections texting and tweeting that school districts were shutting schools down effective immediately until further notice. Sports games were being canceled. More news of people rushing to the store to purchase food and toilet paper. What??? Toilet paper??? Really???
Boom. Announcement came over the speaker. School Canceled. Immediately. Some students were screaming in excitement, some were scared. It was an odd feeling. As the classes let out, I texted my wife and let her know what was going on. She couldn’t believe it. I even said I would run by the grocery store to check things out because I just didn’t believe anything I was hearing…
As I pulled into the grocery store parking lot, it was full. There was hardly any parking spots available. There was line coming out of the building to our local Ralphs. People were running through the aisles with full shopping carts of food and other products. The shelves were ransacked and mostly empty. It was unbelievable. It was like a scene from an apocalyptic movie. No meat, no bread, no canned goods, no paper products, no pastas… it was insane. The funny thing was that the only food really left over was the TV Dinners. I started taking pictures and sending them to my wife who was still at work. She couldn’t believe it. She thought I was joking. The real joke was that this was just the beginning…
Here we are. Before the pandemic, I had begun to write inspirational posts in my social media in plans to create a blog. It began as daily workout posts that eventually stopped because of the events of what I just described. This is my first Blog post here on http://www.CoachHulme.com – My plans are to integrate the previous inspirational posts and stories from my other platforms into one place… here. My goal is to continue the story with behind the scenes never told events that led to previous posts in hopes that they help inspire others to overcome challenges, with new stories that will help uplift and encourage people to achieve for greatness even though our world is going through what we call “The Pandemic”.
